My love for poetry
Sometimes I think,
I'll go for a drink.
This compter of mine
Gives me a hard time
Most times it works
Then has some quirks
Sure is a pain.
To start over again
Can't even spel rite
And I'm not too bright.
But LT's and cookey's
Are merely rookies
In their last word duels
It thinks they are fools.
Though this may make them frown
My computer knows, it takes the Crown.

Re: My Love For Poetry
THE PAIN IN EVERY TEAR
The shadow in my heart does lengthen every day
As the sun in my life sinks beneath the hill.
You have gone, I have a thousand words to say
But they all come out, I love you darling, still.
As I wander through the memories of our past
I feel the warmth of you, so close, and at my side
I thought our love was infinite and it would forever last
Now it haunts me and I know not where to hide.
For that love is now one sided
As it roams in search of you
I know not where to guide it
Far less what you are going through.
I just know my heart is aching
Way down deep inside
Your love was for the taking
Now there's pain in every tear that I have cried.
The shadow in my heart blocks out the light
Cold fingers grip my soul, and chill my bone,
Fond memories share with me my bed at night
But my days are long, now that I am left alone.
I seek the reassurance that only you my love can give
That all is well, in where you now abide
And with that reassurance, I will try my life to live
And the pain that resides within me I shall hide. .

PIKE MINE DISASTER
You should be aware of the mining disaster at the PIKE MINE in New Zealand by now. This then is the tale of that event by a poet, Sean Plunket, a poem from a real life tradgedy!
THE MEN OF PIKE
They came from near and far away
The men of Pike to work that day
The afternoon shift way down deep
Beneath the mountains oh so steep
A long way in but further out
The afternoon shift sets about
A job not flash but hard and trying
A job that holds the risk of dying
From seventeen to sixty two
They start their shift to see it through
For one his first, for all their last
How could they know there’d be a blast?
For all at once no siren whining
Suddenly the worst in mining
Dust and rubble fill the air
A loader driver thrown clear
Just one other finds the light
The rest are hidden from our sight
And so we learn as news is spread
The news that mining families dread
It’s up at Pike there’s an explosion
Faces drop and hearts are frozen
Who, how many, where and why ----
Will they make it ---- will they die
Fathers, husbands, brothers, sons
Coasters, Kiwis, Aussies, Poms
Mates and friends who we are seeking
Methane gas from coal seams leaking
Vents exploded, phones unheeded
Level heads and strength are needed
The world above unites as one
To bring the missing to the sun
Rescue teams are standing by
As holes are drilled and experts try
To find a way that’s safe and sound
To rescue those beneath the ground
Could robots work where men are mortal
To pierce the dangers of that portal
But alas all effort fails
The darkness of the mine prevails
A second blast of rock and thunder
Hope and prayers are rent asunder
A nation weeps and Coasters mourn
Pike falls silent, dark, forlorn
A hole remains within the ground
Devoid of joy, of life, of sound
Another hole within the heart
Of those forever set apart
From those they loved who went to toil
Digging coal beneath the soil
Those who gave their lives that day
To work a shift for honest pay
They wait at rest within their mine
The men of Pike, the Twenty Nine
Sean Plunket .

The Final Inspection
This is a poem of great imagination and by one of the most prolific writers I have known....a favourite of mine......
A.N. Other.
THE FINAL INSPECTION
The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
'Step forward now, you soldier,
How shall I deal with you ?
Have you always turned the other cheek ?
To My Church have you been true?'
The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
'No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
'Step forward now, you soldier,
You've borne your burdens well..
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell.'

A.N. Other and that female poetess Ann Onymous are both prolific writers whom ah admire greatly. My only regret is ah never got the chance to meet them.

Re: My Love For Poetry
Here's a Chinese poet I like, Mee Sum Wun
I met a man in China, Mee Laik Sun, a diplomat,
he schooled me in the Eastern way of life,
one buxom daughter fancied me, the young Mee Phar Too Phat,
I thought why not, and took her for my wife.
She had a sister, Mee Phat Too, I married her as well,
we three then set up house in East Taipei,
the second day I heard somebody ringing on our bell,
it was their older brother, Mee So Gai.
The four of us then settled down, one great big family,
we cooked up rice and noodles every night,
but then a friend of his moved in, a guy called Mee Bi Kee,
he had a quite ferocious appetite!
He also had some biker friends, who came and moved right in,
they drank all day and walked around half-nude,
with Mee Big Slob and Mee No Wok and great big Mee Laik Jinn
we soon ran out of money, drink and food!
I saw the head man at the bank, a bloke called Mee Got Doh,
he told me there was nothing he could do,
but gave me the address of someone that he used to know,
a money dealer known as Mee Kon Yu.
A loan was what I needed, and he took me out the back,
the interest rate was ninety-nine percent,
but I knew of a racehorse that was running at the track,
I took his thousand bucks and off I went.
The bookie’s name was Mee Bet Hi, I bowed and bet the lot,
my horse was Mee Hung Long, a well-bred bay,
when jockey Mee Fro Rais fell off, I felt like I’d been shot,
I’d vowed to pay the money back next day!
I’m living in New Zealand now, I’m poor to say the least,
but Western from now on, no more Chinese,
I had my fill of China and the lifestyle of the East,
for me there’s simply way too many Mee’s!

My love for poetry
Stopping by the Woods
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
Robert Frost

Re: My Love For Poetry
The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could

Re: My Love For Poetry
THE KISS
The warm, soft sweetness of your lips
As they caressed my tear stained face,
Reminded me of our relationship
And your love for the human race.
Those lips were as soft as a summer breeze
Sweet, as the morning dew upon a rose.
Alas, I'm now threatened by the Sword of Damocles
Because of the path I chose.
I made the choice to turn from thee
And leave your light behind,
Only to stumble, fall on bended knee
For without your light, I'm blind.
I know I've wandered far from the path
That was set out for me,
I return disgraced, to face your wrath
And any punishment you may decree.
Tear stained and weary I kneel once more
To bathe in that light I miss,
And with baited breath, you, I implore
Forgive me, with your kiss.
The warm, soft sweetness of your lips
As they caressed my tear stained face,
Reminded me of our relationship
And your love for the human race.
Those lips were as soft as a summer breeze

Re: My Love For Poetry
Hey you two....Wuzfuz and DaffyD!
You're both such a "hoot" and I'm lovin' your poetry from here and there and your bits and pieces of this and that. My "poetic trough" is dry these days....(shucks !!) and I have nothing to contribute....but keep it going .......maybe you'll inspire me!
I surely do love Robert Frost and DaffyD...I loved your last poem..."The Kiss". Where did that come from?....is it one of yours?...because I know that you have quite a way with words! Much as I love what Robert Frost has written, I've not read a whole lot of his poetry.
Whatever the case, DaffyD...loved your poem...and I surely loved your Robert Frost contributions Wuzfuz!
Carry on guys!! Fantastic!

Re: My Love For Poetry
Hey Willows, can't have you drying up on us. Yes 'The Kiss' was mine nice of you to recognise it. Here is one that might inspire you......
A Mother's Love
Embodied in the female form is a tenderness, a love that’s warm
And from conception we nestle there, to start our growth without a care.
We are nourished in this tender pod for a time determined by our God
And when that pregnancy term’s complete, we are delivered forth the world to meet
There’s pain and anguish at our birth, but for each Mother it has its worth
For now at last that Mum can see the results of this her pregnancy.
Washed and cleaned to look our best, we’re introduced to our Mother’s breast,
We suckle at this female form and draw from her a love that’s warm
And from those early days of life she protects us from the toil and strife.
A bond is formed, a love is born, the effort leaves her weak and worn.
The waiting and the pain is past she holds you in her arms at last,
A smile breaks out, she’s feeling good as she enters the realms of Motherhood.
The body warmth, the tender touch is what we learn to need so much,
The open arms, the gentle smile is what we crave for all the while.
When life deals us blows, one after another, who do we turn to if not Mother?
The comfort and warmth of that female form will shield us from the fiercest storm,
And so protected we venture forth to explore the world for what it’s worth.
We traverse the land and cross the sea, and then discover ecstasy.
We discover love of a different kind a love we’d sought but had yet to find
Embodied in a female form, a brand new love that’s sweet and warm
And so once more the wheel will turn, another child for love will yearn,
Another Mother will feel the pain as she brings a child into the world again.
The pattern’s set and we obey for that indeed is Nature’s way,
A Mother’s love to warm our heart, a Mother’s love gave us our start.

Re: My Love For Poetry
DaffyD...
Your poems "The Kiss" and "A Mothers Love" are so sensitive and emotional and I love your way with words.
In 2007....on another forum (QC)....you wrote....
"Last night I held a lovely hand,
A hand so small and neat,
I thought my heart would burst with joy,
So wildly did it beat.
No other hand unto my heart
Could greater pleasure bring
Than the dear one that I held last night..
Four Aces and a King!...."
You and I bantered back and forth a bit in "Poetry" in that forum
and I had a big chuckle over the lines written by you, that I've quoted above!!
So much so, that I replied to your poem and I printed out...both your verse and mine.
My reply to your poem was as follows.......................
"And then that lovely little hand
It beckoned me to linger,
And as I gazed upon each face
They each gave me the finger (uh-oh....can I say that here?)
I thought that I would find my Queen
I'd longed for her so long.
The gold coins I'd laid down for her
Were wasted, now they're gone.
You'd think I'd learned my lesson
But next week, I'll be back....
With fluttering heart and jingling coins
And yet another deck."
Do you remember yours and my lines? LOL!
I keep these verses amongst my small collection of poetry that I've written....and I thought that you might enjoy reading them again. :)

Re: My Love For Poetry
I've always tried to walk the straight and narrow
But then Cupid hits me with another arrow.
For a shy coy look and a lovely smile
I often think I would WALK a mile.
But then I think who'd want this old has-bin?
Perhaps a widow remembering when.
Would still find, she has a yen.
But if I meet one who gives me a smile,
I'd probably RUN another mile
For all have sinned since the Garden of Eden
Or maybe its just the mating season.
Whatever be the reason.
Its often said that dreams come true.
And in my dreams I've found a few.
But then I awake in the cold grey dawn
And find that they are really gone.
So I must wait for another night.
To find some one who seems so right.
But then I find a quote
That Winston Churchill wrote.
" One good thing about growing old is that you don't have struggle to avoid temptation . It avoids you.."
Must be talking about someone much older than me.

Re: My Love For Poetry
Mmmm! Enjoyed that one wuzfuz, nice story telling....
Willows....I enjoy the interaction with like minds where the end product is interesting and entertaining. Take for instance that wee poem about the 'pilgrim gambler' as a follow on you might be interested in an extract from my writings......
A Soul Lost
It was almost three in the morning,
A heavy mist was in the air,
The pilgrim pulled his cloak around him
And made his way across the square.
The hollow sound of his leather boots
Echoed dully on cobbled stone,
A lonely sound there in the mist,
But that pilgrim was not alone!
His companion, cowled and wraith like
Walked in silence near his side,
He claimed he owned the pilgrim’s soul
And would collect it when he died.
So for now, the spectre followed
A mere half a step behind
The pilgrim searched for sanctuary
Claiming the Devil’s contract remained unsigned.
The pilgrim had been tempted,
And in part he was to blame.
He had wished his creditors all to Hell
To be consumed in the Devil’s flame!
The creditors ceased to plague him
And good fortune came his way,
So too did a tall cowled wraith,
His companion from that day.
The pilgrim crossed the deserted square,
His aim, to break the Devil’s hold
By seeking sanctuary in a church
Now that he was grey and old.
He had enjoyed the Devil’s gifts
For many a year and day,
The wraith then took a half step forward
And stole the pilgrim’s soul away.
