I did all that in those days of yore, held down a decent job.I cooked the meals and what is more,I always cleaned the hob.
The tide mark left after a bubble bath soak, was a chore left for me.
Removing it was indeed no joke, nor was the ritual request for tea.

The advice above is baffling, aye, may I say bewildering, for even after these long years, there's been nay chance o' children.
"Woo my love with roses" placate the little diva. redroses Aye, ah only tried that once
and it brought aboot hay fever.

Then there was jewelry and dresses, perfumes and accoutrements accepted without gratitude, as were other kind events. But all that my dear, was in days of yore long past,I long to hold you in my arms, to hold and hold you fast. To retrieve from you my credit card and so halt your shopping spree, no more living it up in posh hotels, so git on home to me!

Oh woe is me, I did not see
    Perhaps you write in truth
    Me... my silly writings
    Are nonsense and ...to boot
    I've been only jesting
    'Bout pickin' up yer socks
    An' scrubbin' out the bathtub
    Or donnin' yer clean jocks!

Well it seems ye've bin a mighty gent
    Doin' what's yer due
One day soon a buxom maid
Will make her home with ye!
An' ye'll write her lines of love songs
Of that I have no doubt
An' yer ol' love is better gone
"Tis better she is out! Laughing

Pay ye no heed to what I say 'tis but with words I do play
A raconteur, a teller of tales, a purveyor of dreams when all else fails. I reach into my readers mind to release the emotions that I find. In truth I awaken from that secret place, thoughts that hereto they dained to face. A spark of recognition flares, igniting long forgotten cares. Guilt or joy springs to the fore and releases tensions not known before.Empathy is found in the words I write, recognition of one's own plight? Be that plight be tinged in sorrow, do take heart it could change tomorrow.

I too, write with words of play,
Ne'er believe the words I say
    In silly light poetic form.........
Tho' that is always not my norm
Most oft' I write with words from heart
And from my lips the words depart
Unto my printer's pad at hand
    Prattling....can one understand?
The scrambles words my fingers tap
    And chance being understood mayhap!

Well it's been thirteen days that's past
Time to rhyme again at last
I'm looking for some silly rhyming
Come and join me without sighing
It's so easy, don't you know?!!
All ya gotta do is "crow"
Crow about the day you've had!
Or cry to us ...if it's been bad....
    Write and rhyme about whatever
Let's all join as one together..
    Having fun, .....maybe a growl...
    Rhyme whatever....one and all!

    Happy May to everyone
It's great to see the rising sun
    With robins singing
    Daylight bringing
Sprouting things, the signs of Spring
    Budding trees and blossoms' scents
And tulips blooming by the fence

    Geese are flying over head
Green grass sprouts, where in it's stead...
Were gritty banks of winter's snow
    With garbage gathered down below
    Cleaning crews and avid gardeners
    Disperse the signs of
    What was winter

    Come and celebrate the season...
    At "Willow's Workshop"
    There's no reason
For you to shy or stay away..
Come and join us any day
And celebrate, your thoughts of SPRING
    Share your garden.......everything!

    HELIOTROPIUM

Now dares a fine ten dollar word fer youse all. Let me tell you all about it......

    HELIOTROPIUM

Thrust deep into the earth by a weather beaten hand

And saturated to a point that enlarged each and every gland

Then contained within an atmosphere of humidity and light,

No parental love, no comfort, just a long depressing fight.

Pushing deep within the earth for sustenance and strength,

Pushing up and outwards and doubling in length.

Finally a breakthrough, as the earth above did part,

Life as a Heliotropium was just about to start.

Tender shoots unfurling and searching for the sun,

In time for the competition, which has only just begun.

Tender care and feeding was the order of the day,

Producing tall green stem, broad green leaf with roots deep within the clay.

    Measurements were taken, calculations made,

Precautions put in being, in case green-fly should invade.

A made to measure greenhouse, erected by the keepers,

Was placed there in the garden, near the Virgina Creepers.

Its growth was phenomenal in its quest to find the sun,

    A Heliotrope extrodinaire, the competition'won!

But hold, the tale's not over, there's tragedy in Town,

Having searched to find the sun the plant began to crown.

Disaster for the growers of this plant extrodinaire,

For height had been the objective, the reason for the care.

"No matter" cried the keeper with a face all blotched and red,

"We'll change the objectivity and go for the biggest head."

    Now who'd a'thunk 'sides DaffyD...
To write a poem ..just as we see ..
    About a mystical "Heliotrope"
    Wish I'd the talent...don't I hope!!

    Whom amongst us can compete
    With DaffyD...that is a feat!!
To rhyme about a favorite flower..
    Here's my challenge
    At this hour.........

    To compete with Daffy's poem.
Start a poem all your own!!
    Write about your tulips blooming..
Maybe 'bout your stuff not doin'
What this year you'd thought it'd do
    Maybe 'prenials...less and few
Maybe you can cuss a little
But remember here...must be a "flittle"
Of the words you want to say......
Come back with a greet.."Good Day"!

Nay nay lass, thou have got it wrong
    Poets don't compete,
Their hearts just sing a song
    With verse concise and neat
They sometimes have a tale to tell
    Perhaps about a flower
Or a request they made at a wishing well
Even thoughts of their darkest hour.

Its the abstractivity (is that a word?)
That intrigues, and helps the flow
Fear not that your work may appear absurd
Or that the rhythm is too slow
To share our thoughts with amused like minds
Is an honour and a treat
A mental therapy too one finds
    To makes one's day complete

Because, I've done and lost it....

    Now...my mind's a bucket
    Of only emptiness......
Can't think of words that I can say...
    So...I'll come back another day!!

I wish I could write a verse or rhyme
When a thought comes at anytime,
Of sunny days and roses red
Or chickens that have just been fed.
    Of books and rocking chairs
And hooked rugs by the hall stairs.
A song that keeps running through my head
Until it's time to go to bed.

Wishing he was back with "we"
    Telling stories, some are fable
    Better than I'm ever able
Hope that he'll return with tales
    Of his adventures while away

'Tween his return, I know there are
Others here to rhyme and spar....
    Wuzfuz, Glad and Oceanna
Know you can and others welcome
    Willow's Workshop's missing you...

'Tis I the traveller, safe returned
    Refreshed, invigorated, though slightly burned
Fresh from adventures in the Med
With a myriad of thoughts running through my head
Setting forth into a placid sea
Not aware what did wait for me
It came about on the second day
As we were crossing Biscay Bay

A bit of a blow filled our virtual sail
A squall, some rain, and stinging hail
A choppy sea that rose and fell
Some of my shipmates didn't feel so well
'Hang in there mate' was my cheery cry
'We'll be in Cadiz ere by and by
There the sun will shine and dry you out'
"Stow it lad" was their chorused shout.

I just adored those days at sea
The sun, the rain, the wind, ah me!
Striding those decks in that bracing air
Without a worry, without a care.
Cadiz and then onward East to Greece
Looking for Jason and the Golden Fleece
    Corfu, colonised in 734 BC
By the Corinthians (well before you or me)

    Corfu pledged herself to Rome
And for five centuries allowed them to call her 'home'
But when the Roman Empire fell
Corfu came under the Byzantine spell.
Then Venetians, Russians, French did rule
And with them brought the printing press, and school
In 1814 Napoleon to the British fell,
The French Garrison in Corfu as well.

Later in 1858 Gladstone (our Premier) did a visit make
With lots of decisions for him to make
In exchange for gold (from the Golden Fleece?)
Did cede the islands to their neighbour Greece.
The island's income is derived from olive oil
With tourism now a major toil
    Tolerating the likes of me
A curious vistor that came from the sea.

    To be continued.......

Oh Daffy you are a poet fine
For every line you can find a rhyme.
But this little couplet is the best I can do.
Even though Longfellow is like my shoe. (A long one)

    Sailing

    (Part two)

    KORCULA

Korcula a small island, hilly and richly green
Ten times as long as it is wide
A Croatian treasure that must be seen
Thirty miles long by three, and that's from side to side
    A sea bound compact peninsular
    So says our Hellenic guide

For Korcula was settled..... 4th Century BC
    By colonists from Asia Minor
It all sounds Greek to me.
    High quality white marble,
    Is their stone of choice
Quarried to build their village homes
And to give their island, voice
Its export recorded in ancient tomes

Sent to Dubrovnik, Split and beyond
A site so pleasing to the eye
And one to which I have become quite fond.
Masonry and shipbuilding their trades of long ago
    Attracted subjugation, isn't always so?

    Greeks, Romans, Byzantines
    Invaded to set Korcula free
Then stayed around until the Venetians came
    Around 1000 years AD
    The Venetian influence was enormous
    Korcula prospered under it
    Until Croatia, Hungary, Bosnia
Fought for their own little bit.

In 1420 it was again the turn of Venice
Yet once more it was not to last
Plague and fire had their way
As so often in the past
The hordes of Europe took their turn
    Austria, France and Russia,
    Great Britain in there too
    Italy, Germany, watched villages burn
    Annexed by Yugoslavia
That's all that they could do.

Yugoslavia alas fragmented, Croatia stepped in then
An ongoing ownership, until who knows when?
