Real Flowers Dried Empty Real Flowers Dried

Late last summer I acquired a pail of silica crystals. So, late in the Fall I remembered I had it and decide to try. I salvaged a few miniature roses just before the killing frost. I covered them with the silica and I am posting the results. The colour isn't faded and that is a plus.

I will be drying some perfect buds next summer.

The roses dried very well and are beautiful Islandgrl.
I love dried flowers and used to see them at craft sales but haven't seen any for the last couple of years.

They are so nice to have in a vase at this time of year.
This is the first year for a long time that I didn't get an amaryllis for Christmas. I love to watch them grow and bloom in the cold winter days.

Ig, I do know that silica sand works very well in preserving the character as well as the color of a blossom, but you must have the patience of Jobe in the process Ig! I found it a tedious job to fill the blossom...especially a rose...between each petal so that it retains it's shape....and then when the rose is dried...the process of brushing the sand..ever so delicately...from the rose, is every bit as tedious, but the end result is beautiful!

    Great job Islandgrl! clapping.gif
