A short poem and sure hope it does not offend anyone here.

    The Town Clown

There's always one in every town
A silly one portrays a clown
Acting like they own the place
Seems they hide behind the face
They act like children at a zoo
And try to fool each one of you
If the truth should ever find
    They are only being kind
So when you come into a town
Say hello to the silly clown

    DaffyD wrote......

    A Soul Lost

It was almost three in the morning,
A heavy mist was in the air,
The pilgrim pulled his cloak around him
And made his way across the square.
The hollow sound of his leather boots
    Echoed dully on cobbled stone,
A lonely sound there in the mist,
But that pilgrim was not alone!

His companion, cowled and wraith like
Walked in silence near his side,
He claimed he owned the pilgrim’s soul
And would collect it when he died.
So for now, the spectre followed
A mere half a step behind
    The pilgrim searched for sanctuary
Claiming the Devil’s contract remained unsigned.

    The pilgrim had been tempted,
And in part he was to blame.
He had wished his creditors all to Hell
To be consumed in the Devil’s flame!
The creditors ceased to plague him
And good fortune came his way,
So too did a tall cowled wraith,
    His companion from that day.

The pilgrim crossed the deserted square,
His aim, to break the Devil’s hold
By seeking sanctuary in a church
Now that he was grey and old.
He had enjoyed the Devil’s gifts
For many a year and day,
The wraith then took a half step forward
And stole the pilgrim’s soul away.

    .................

So in the end, there's no escape
    No church, nor given prayer...
The wraith could steal one's soul away
    Regardless if repaired??

    P.S. DaffyD
    Your poetry is hmmmmmmm.....magnificent!!

-I've always tried to walk the straight and narrow
But then Cupid hits me with another arrow.
For a shy coy look and a lovely smile
I often think I would WALK a mile.
But then I think who'd want this old has-bin?
    Perhaps a widow remembering when.
Would still find, she has a yen.
But if I meet one who gives me a smile,
    I'd probably RUN another mile
For all have sinned since the Garden of Eden
Or maybe its just the mating season.
    Whatever be the reason.
Its often said that dreams come true.
And in my dreams I've found a few.
But then I awake in the cold grey dawn
And find that they are really gone.
So I must wait for another night.
To find some one who seems so right.
But then I find a quote
    That Winston Churchill wrote.
" One good thing about growing old is that you don't have struggle to avoid temptation . It avoids you.."

Must be talking about someone much older than me.

    I loved your poem Wuzfuz!

One must never succumb to age!
    Lightening strikes at surprizing times!!

    Hmmmmm.....

It's been a long time since our poetic friends here at SBR...have written some poetic lines here just for fun!

Come on ...Wuzfuz...Oceanna..Glad...and whomever has the inclination to play with words!!

Babble away and Rhyme away...silly ...serious...or whatever!

Have some fun! Surely...throughought your days, you have some silly or serious thoughts and so...hmmmm....put your thoughts together into some sort of rhyme!

Most often...the sillier and the most novice rhymes are the most entertaining! Give us all a thought to ponder or giggle! Laughing

    Come on...share with us! Friendly

    Alice's Knickers !!

The story really started many years ago
Two children played a silly game
They called it ‘Show for Show’
Their names were Jack and Alice
Just bairns of five or six
    “Jack, show me your underpants
And I’ll show you, my frilly ‘nicks’”

    Jack at last persuaded
    Dropped his knee length corduroys
Alice stared and began to laugh,
Then called over the other boys.
Jack was livid he’d been had
    By this frilly fairy queen
Whilst she ogled at his underpants
She made sure her frills weren’t seen.

The years rolled by, as we know they do
    Then came that fateful night,
“A church concert jack, would you like to go,
    Alice Clark’s their leading light?”
    Memories flooded back for Jack
Of that day so long ago
That little girl, those frilly ‘nicks’
    He wouldn’t miss this show.

They filed into the old church hall
    Jack took up his seat.
He’d waited years for his revenge
    And his revenge was sweet.
The cast a group of pensioners
    Their renditions brought forth snickers
“Whey Jack lad, did yi enjoy the show?”

“Just tell Alice I’ve seen her knickers!!!!”

    Hey Glad,
You might start with Alice's knickers
    DaffyD gave us some "snickers"....

    He, to me's an inspiration,
    Hope our silly bantering's catchin'!
Ne'er could I story like he!
Yet in rhyme!! so it's left to he
Who'll tell us tales from whom knows where..
I may reply if words I dare
    To compromise his venturous story
    Perhaps I won't...hmmmmmmm
    But then again.....I might!!!

But DaffyD....we're out to get ya! lol!
    Write a line..then we'll rhyme with you
Let's see where this rhyme will go
One for us and one for you.... Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
I'll stop the rhyme when it's a drone
    Then we'll begin another one.

    I'll start with ....."Mary....down the lane..."....(Hey DaffyD....I'm counting on you!! Laughing )
