    In our throw-away world do people take care of their parents? I know in my world they do or should. Now there is a new law in China where they have to or face big fines or more. Would such a law fly here?

    Were you too busy to visit your elderly parents last year? If you said yes, then you're lucky you don't live in China where ignoring or failing to take care of your aging parents' needs could see you end up in court or worse.

    According to the Financial Post, the Chinese government may introduce a new law that will force children to mentally and physically take care of their elderly parents. If they fail to do so, parents can go to court which could result in huge fines for their offspring.

    The progressive law is the first of its kind and in a country where a one-child policy still reins supreme it could provide much-needed legal protection for China's senior citizens.The law could forever change the way the elderly are treated in China and begs the question will this, or a similar rule, ever come into effect in Canada?

    I would think grown children would want to look after aging parents if they are
    healthy themselves and able to. I would hope a law would not be needed.

    In some cases when parents live to be in their nineties and beyond their children are
    also up in years and have serious health problems. So every case would be different.
