Virtually all of Europe's major airports remain closed as a huge plume of volcanic ash drifts south and east across the continent from Iceland.

I suppose the eruption isn't just causing problems for the travel industry. The environment must be affected too.

It certainly is something we have not seen in our life time. Tourism e.g. hotels, restaurants everything has been effected. I certainly would have rather been some one staying at home waiting to go on a holiday than being stranded. Thank goodness things are moving now.

Funnily enough not much has been mentioned about the environment.

I remember when Mt St Helen erupted a few decades ago. From the western USA to the mid-west (where I live) it took a short time and the ash was everywhere in the air. I remember too it was hard to breathe because of it.

When Mt. St. Helen did its thing back in the 80's we were living in Saint John N.B. A week after it erupted we had ash on our car. Now that is travelling!

I am Watching the situation with a vested interest. My Beloved and I have air tickets to fly from Manchester-Heathrow-Edmonton and later the first week Edmonton - Victoria BC. and thereafter regrettably return....

On one of the earlier eruptions causing all Uk air[ports to close down many travellers have found to their cost their insurance policies' "small print" states they are not covered; causing much financial distress.

    Quoting Herr Suit...

Thanks, for that info Herr Suit. My son and daughter-in-law are holidaying in Paris, 3 weeks from now, and although they seem non-chalant about more eruptions...I am much concerned, so I will pass this info on to them.

Just a mite envious of them visiting Paris, purely for aestetic reasons for I am no great lover of the stereotypical French. Probably a good time to go for your people Willows the 'euro' (€) is having a touch of ill health, a welcome thought for many a visitor with the prospect of visiting what is, I am told, an expensive Metropolitan Capital
