    People are poisoned by the plant oil which is found throughout the entire plant. The oil can stick to clothing and be easily transferred to the hands or face by touching or rubbing. Pets can also become contaminated by running through dense patches of the plant. Animals don't react to the poison, but if you touch your pet afterwards, you can easily become poisoned. Individuals vary greatly in susceptibility to poison ivy and some may have never suffered any ill effects.

    We are in the poison ivy capital of Ontario I think, our area is full of it, I no longer go for a walk behind the house into some open fields, there's just too much of it now.

    Thanks for the information. Somehow I am one of the lucky ones that is immune to poison oka, ivy and a few others. However hayfever is really giving me fits in recent years.

    When I was younger I would break out just walking near it. Maybe since older I am immune but I know to stay away just in case.

    I remember as a young bride my hubby enjoyed squirrel hunting. I washed his hunting clothes and contracted poison ivy. After that, needless to say he washed his own hunting gear.
