    Credit cards Empty Credit cards

They are easy to get and use but do they also get people into debt faster. Which one is best? Do you need to get one/change?

Very helpful and enlightening article [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Great information, best bet for me is just one credit card and then use it sparingly.

    Good advice there Islandgrl.
We have two credit cards and only use them when necessary.

A credit card is great to have when travelling or for
emergencies. I think some cards are just too easy to get.

I agree.... credit cards are far too easy to obtain and along with it the temptation to overspend. Many years ago we had to practically jump through hoops to get approved for a Visa card from the Bank and with a low credit limit at that!

My family calls me Bargain Bob

I use my Mastercard for most purchases over $20.. I get points that I can use on future purchases of groceries and other articles sold in stores owned by the issuer of the card, a large supermarket chain.

Fortunately I am able to completely pay the balance each month so no interest is involved.

I like to use other people's money instead of my own for up to a month with no penalty.

You can see why my family and friends call me Bargain Bob

Pay it off completely so there in no interest charges.

I use my credit card all the time. I pay the entire bill at the end of the month, actually it comes out of checking account automatically. I even use it to my my groceries. I get 1% back in January and we use that money to buy gift certificates to the Keg. We go for a lovely lunch about 4 times a year and pay very little each time. It is our gift to ourselves.

    Hi GHL

Don't think an automatic withdrawal is a good idea. Like to see a hard copy of my monthly statement to ensure all charges are legitimate before paying it on the Internet

I keep all my receipts and check them off with the online bill and when the actual bill comes in the mail I double check to see if every thing is right. Visa, taxes, insurance and hydro come out of account every month on the first. Gas comes out on the 22. So it is easy to keep track of what goes on. I also check my banking every morning while having my morning coffee so I can see if anything is amiss. One time $500 was missing and I called right away and got my money back. I do enjoy my lunches out at the keg compliments of the 1% back.

GHL - yes, it is nice when you get something back from a credit card company isn't it? For years now I've only used credit cards that will reward me in some way and refuse to use anything else!

    Family call me Bargain Bob.

I spend little cash on things I buy.

Use my Mastercard because it gives me points for every purchase I make using their card. Built up many dollars that I can spend in their supermarkets on anything they sell.

    Very Happy

Is there also a store called Bargain Bob. I know there is one called Target. Very Happy If I have to make a purchase on credit I use Visa Dividend. At the end of the year I get some dollars which I can again use to make purchases.

Sears has a points awards system, where they give you points that can be redeemed also. Trouble is points are deleted periodically. I learned with my last bill that I lost the points for $621. I phoned and complained and learned I could be put on automatic redemption for the vouchers. Now they will automatically send the vouchers before the points expire. Vouchers expire after 6 months.

My beef was, why give the points if they are going to take them back after a certain time.

I did not know about Sears automatic redeption for vouchers. I have had points expire too so I will ask about being put on automatic redemption. Thanks for that information Islandgrl.
