Sioux City Sue
In the late 40's and early 50's, I can still hear my Mom singing this song as she worked around the kitchen.....

Re: Music of the 30's and 40's
Do you all remember the song "Golden Slippers" ?
Here is a terrific peppy version of this nostalgic song.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3wAkdXvhGE
"Oh, my gold-en slip-ers are laid a-way
'Cause I don't 'spect to wear them till my wed-ding day.
And my long tailed coat that I loved so well,
I will wear up in the char-iot in the morn.
Chor
Oh them gold-en slip-pers oh them gold-en slip-pers.
Gold-en slip-pers I'm going to wear, be-cause they look so neat.
Oh them gold-en slip-pers, oh them gold-en slip-ers.
Golden slippers I'm going to wear, to walk the golden street.
And my long white robe that I brought last June,
I'm gonna get changed 'cause it fits too soon,
And my old gray horse that I used to drive,
I will hitch him to the chariot in the morn.
Oh my old banjo hangs on the wall,
'Cause it ain't bee tuned since way last fall,
But the folks all say we'll have a good time,
When we ride up in the chariot in the morn.
Say it's goodby children I have to go,
where the rain don't fall and the wind don't blow,
And your woolen clothes you will not need,
When you ride up in the chariot in the morn."
"balladofamerica — November 25, 2008 — Artist: Matthew Sabatella & the Rambling String Band with the Pompano Beach Old-Time Jammers
Description: This song (formally titled "Oh, Dem Golden Slippers") was composed by prominent black minstrel songwriter and banjo player James A. Bland in 1879. The melody later passed from the minstrel stage into folk and fiddling tradition. "Oh, Dem Golden Slippers" was originally a mockery of "Golden Slippers," a spiritual song sung by the Fisk Jubilee Singers. Bland's version surpassed the Fisk song in popularity and is now commonly referred to as "Golden Slippers." With the help of the Pompano Beach Old-Time Jammers, Matthew Sabatella & the Rambling String Band bring together the vocal version of the song and the fiddle version. See "Old Joe Clark" and "Yellow Rose of Texas" for more from 'Old-Time Music Night' at Luna Star Cafe in North Miami on Friday, October 24, 2008."
Hmmmmmmm.....maybe this should be "Kitchen Party"!!!!!! It fits where ever...and I just hope that you all smiled and tapped your toes while you listened to this song!! How I loved it...and I hope that you did as well!
