    A lot of java files are always popping up and my firewall wants me to submit it for analysis to see if it is safe. A couple being javacpl.exe, jucheck.exe, etc. I have a choice of allowing them or blocking them. I have started blocking them whenever my firewall doesn't recognize them and it doesn't seem to recognize any with regard to java.

    I would like to get rid of Java altogether because I have learned that it is an unsafe program from a security point of view. When I do a Search, it seems to appear in all or almost all Windows programs. It's as if it has taken control of my computer. I cannot open it's control panel to disable anything in it. I cannot copy the Search Results. If I do an uninstall will it get rid of it all?

    You need java to view a lot of websites, you can disable it in your browser, but I think what you are seeing is malware. Maybe someone else can confirm.

    n Firefox, click on the Tools button on the main toolbar. Then select Options. Click on the "Content" tab and check or uncheck the "Enable Java" checkbox.

    In Internet Explorer, click on Tools, then Internet Options. Select the Programs tab and click the Manage Add-ons button. Find "Sun Microsystems - Java plug-in" and enable or disable it.

    Thank you SSU. Will have a look at that site now.

    For the first time in my time owning a computer, I got the courage to do a registry scan and clean. I am now testing it to see if all is still ok. If it isn't/doesn't, I can restore. If it is ok, I can delete the stuff it removed. After this session I will delete, I think.

    I would leave the Java on. Without Java many forums will not work for you. Shoutboxes (many) are coded in Java. Dangers in Java come when you click on popups. You should not even see any popups unless they are "from" the forum you are visiting and it "pertains" to that forum.

    On my forum you have the option of having a popup window appear when you get a PM. However you will not see a popup for antivirus etc. I don't have advertisements on my forum.

    Get Firefox and learn to use it with adblocker. I have not seen an advertisement in so many years on a forum I would think it strange to see one.

    I have never seen an advertisement here, so don't know if you even have them. It is so nice to be away from IE and not worry about stuff.

    Wow, I'd hate to have to pay the bill for that site. Must be way up in the thousands of dollars per month for the server useage alone.

    I think there is an option to let only guests see ads, let all see ads or let no one see ads. :)
