Nature's Forecast

I heard something interesting yesterday morning on my local radio Gardening show.

"If squirrels are preparing for winter by burying their food in the ground.....the snowfall will be light"

"But if the winter will be heavy....the squirrels will store their food in a tree"

I watched the cutest squirrel scurrying back and forth with a french-fry in it's mouth in the fall....on more than one ocassion, as I waited for my ride or a taxi-cab. Obviously, it had discovered a cache of discarded french-fries down the way... and maybe stashed them in a hiding place. Back and forth he/she went across my sidewalk to an unknown winter storage place. This happened on about three ocassions (different times)....
I now wonder whether he was storing them up a tree or was he/she burying these fries somewhere for their winter supply. Judging by our winter this far...I think that he might have been burying the fries! Here it is...January 16th...and we have a very light covering of snow! Hmmmmm...wonder where those fries are!
