    Christmas Decorating Empty Christmas Decorating

Post by islandgrl Sat Nov 19, 2011 2:15 pm

I have started by putting up some outside lights. I have two cast iron urns with which I improvised. In the stores they have pre-lit, sometimes decorated, trees in urns. They cost anywhere from $75 and up.

To save myself the expense, I filled it with sand and wired a tall conical wire tomato cage to the urn and applied a string of net lights. Not too realistic in the daytime but very effective after dark. Laughing

I want to upload pictures but unable to right now. Will try later. Get in the Christmas spirit. It is a good feeling.

IG, you're very creative! Some of my neighbours have already done their Christmas decorating (both inside and out) for weeks now whereas I haven't started as yet. Instead I'm working on other stuff right now, ie. letters & wee gifts for relatives overseas, baking etc. Still can't believe that Christmas is only a month away.... where has the year gone?

I love Christmas decorating and I'm hoping to get mine done in a couple of weeks.

Islandgrl, is it possible to insert pine or cedar bows and berry branches such as Mountain Ash berries into and amongst the lights on your tomato cage? Even delicate and whispy bare twigs such as branches from a spirea shrub might look nice.

I am sure anything is possible Willows but it gets so windy here that I am hesitant. Last year I made fresh bows for the outside windowsills, decorated with red balls and ribbons, and they were sad looking after a week. I just love all white lights so I have a few strings to hang, on the eaves, on the trees, etc.

What I would really love to have is a realistic nativity scene. I like to watch, on tv, the elaborate decorations people display. There is a show dedicated to doing just that.

My outside decorating is a work in progress. I took the pictures twice and each time they looked blurry so I can't imagine what the problem is. Could be the bright LED lights. The upside down tomato cages are in the urns on both sides of the entrance. The two on the right are twinkling and attached to a lattice with a rounded top. The one on the left is my wooden silhouette that I made today. Hmmmm!!! Looks like a tree to me. You can also see my trees that are only about 18" tall.

The first one is of the garage and front. The second one is of the front. Goodness, I think it needs another tree on that left corner. I may make it tomorrow.

like you spent a lot of time making everything look just right.
    Well done!
