    It is too early here for putting in transplants, but here is a couple of tips I am going to try when I set out some precious little plants.

    To keep slugs away from tender transplants, surround the stems with egg shells.

    Remove the bottom from an empty tin can and use it for a cutworm collar around a seedling. Sink the can halfway into the ground.
    For a larger plant use a juice tin.

    ...hmmmm Oceanna...and a lot of prayers!!

    When I had an outdoor garden...those danged slugs devoured so many of my lovely plants....so I`d be out there after dark with my salt-shaker......sending them to ``Ooozy-land`....but I was also killing my plants.

    They especially loved my sedums...lambs`ears...and hostas ! Ughh!

    Now that I have a Balcony Garden...I don`t have to cope with slugs....but I`ve had a never ending problem with my Ficus tree which is now more than a meter tall and is in a window in my living-room. It has been shedding yellow leaves off and on throughout the winter...and here I go again! Every morning...there are several more yellow leaves to pick off. My plan is to put it out on my balcony as soon as there`s no danger of frost and let it do what it will.
    I`m losing patience with it!!

    If anyone has a `soft-heart`for my Ficus tree and wants to save it from my wrath....I will welcome your advice! Laughing

    Willows, I find that plants in containers, off the ground, do better than if put in the garden.
    They are not chewed and snipped off by the pests in the ground.

    I do have problems with slugs and I have to resort to buying slug pellets at the hardware store. However, the ones available now are not quite as effective as they used to be.

    Having flowers is a struggle but gardening is my main hobby in summer.
